Your data, explained

Privacy policy

Effective October 23, 2026 · Applies to OmniClick and this website

The short version: notes are saved in your browser. If you enable Drive sync, note files go directly to your own Google Drive. OmniClick does not send your notes, email contents, or audio attachments to a developer-operated server.

1. Who provides OmniClick

OmniClick is a Chrome extension maintained through the wisecrunch/OmniClick GitHub repository. In this policy, “OmniClick” refers to the extension and its project website. Contact the maintainer through the repository’s issue tracker. Issues are public: do not include note contents, email messages, passwords, tokens, or other private information.

2. Data the extension accesses and stores

DataPurpose and location
Mailbox email address, Gmail thread identifier, and email subjectAssociate a private note with the correct mailbox and conversation. Stored with notes in the browser, and in Drive when sync is enabled.
Note text, color, completion status, timestamps, and deletion markersDisplay, search, back up, restore, and sync your notes. Stored in local extension storage; optionally uploaded to your Drive.
Saved Gmail tabsMailbox address, tab names, Gmail search queries, label and sublabel names, order, and appearance are saved locally in the browser to provide custom navigation. These settings are not uploaded to Drive or included in note exports. Disable Custom Gmail tabs to hide them; edit a tab to delete it.
Feature preferencesRemember enabled tools using Chrome’s extension settings storage. These preferences may sync according to your Chrome profile settings. Note text is not stored in Chrome’s settings-sync area.
Connected Drive account email address, account identifier, sync status, and sync comparison recordsVerify the connected account, restrict sync to its matching mailbox, report errors, and compare saved note versions. Stored locally.
Supported audio attachments and attachment metadataRetrieve and play MP3/WAV recordings, including supported GSM-encoded WAV files. Audio is fetched from Gmail and decoded in your browser; it is not uploaded to the maintainer.
Google authorization tokens and Gmail session informationAuthorize the actions you enable. Chrome’s identity system manages Drive tokens; OmniClick uses a token transiently in its background process. Gmail’s current session is used to retrieve attachments. The extension does not ask you to enter your Google password or store it.

The extension reads relevant parts of the Gmail page to identify threads, show note previews, and add audio controls. It may retrieve a thread’s print view to locate attachment links. These operations run in your browser; OmniClick does not upload your inbox or build a developer-side mailbox database.

3. Optional Google Drive sync

Drive sync starts only after you configure and connect it through Google’s authorization flow. OmniClick requests the limited drive.file permission, which permits access to files the app creates or that you explicitly authorize for the app; it does not request access to all unrelated files in your Drive.

Sync transfers note records directly between your browser and Google Drive over HTTPS. The visible OmniClick Notes folder contains current note JSON files and a Backups folder with saved versions. File names can include your mailbox address, email subject, and thread identifier. The note files themselves contain the note text and its metadata. Only notes for the connected Drive email address are synced; other mailboxes’ notes remain local.

OmniClick does not intentionally share these folders with other people. If you change their sharing permissions or export and share a backup, others may gain access. Google processes data held in your Drive according to your account settings and Google’s Privacy Policy.

4. Use and sharing of Google user data

Google user data is used only to provide the note, sync, backup, restore, and audio features you enable. OmniClick does not sell this data, use it for advertising, or use it to train generalized artificial intelligence models. The extension does not provide a developer-side service for reading your notes or email.

OmniClick’s handling of Google API data follows the Google API Services User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements. Google data is transferred to the Google services needed for the requested features; there is no additional developer-operated storage server or analytics recipient in this version.

5. Retention, deletion, and your controls

Turning off the notes feature hides its Gmail interface but does not delete notes or disconnect Drive. Removing a current file directly in Drive does not delete a local note; a connected installation may upload it again.

6. Security

Google requests use HTTPS. Drive authorization is managed through Chrome’s identity API, and the extension does not write access tokens into its note storage or source files. Notes are not separately encrypted by OmniClick before being placed in local storage or Drive. Anyone with access to your unlocked browser profile, your Google account, a shared note folder, or an exported backup may be able to read them.

7. Website hosting and support

This static website is hosted by GitHub Pages. It does not add analytics, advertising scripts, forms, or tracking cookies. GitHub may process visitor request information, including IP addresses, for hosting and security under the GitHub Privacy Statement.

If you submit a support issue, GitHub and the maintainer receive the information you choose to include. Avoid posting private email or note data. Information you publish in issues is separate from the extension’s local and Drive storage.

8. Changes and contact

This policy may be updated when OmniClick’s features or data practices change. The effective date above identifies the current policy, and changes are available in the repository history. Material changes involving additional Google data use will be disclosed before that new use and will require consent where applicable.

For privacy questions or a request concerning information you deliberately submitted to the project, contact the maintainer through GitHub Issues, without including the private information in the public request. The maintainer cannot directly delete notes held only in your browser or your private Drive; use the controls described above.
